Cosmic Meltdown is the new album by Madison, WI’s Dead Luke. For those new to him, let’s just mention that he has worked with Zola Jesus and released some stuff on Sacred Bones. This is a collection of nine lo-fi psych rock songs with “a bit of a bitter broken heart vibe”, as the label says. Another new full-length should be out soon on Floridas Dying. Get Cosmic Meltdown C45 here.
Gold Zebra is a Montreal-based electronic duo made up of Julie and JP Richard. No word on a release yet, in the meantime check out their Myspace page for more tight disco and synthpop tunes. This is gooood:
Remember that new EP by Cameron Mesirow a.k.a. Glasser we mentioned the other day? Well, today Pinglewood made one of the remixes available for download. Snatch Astronomer‘s 9-minute remix of ‘Tremel’ below. Oh and guess what – Mesirow likes Cocteau Twins.
2010, Royal Rhino Flying Records 01. Sometimes it Kills; 02. Cult of Cobras; 03. Waves, They Crash; 04. Solid Rainbows
Visions of Trees are a two-piece from London who make fine dreamy electronic pop with tribal beats. Their debut EP Sometimes It Kills is out now on Royal Rhino Flying Records, order it here. Here’s a track from the EP and another track we like even better.
CREEP are Lauren Flax and Lauren Dillard (not the Romanian Hardcore DJ and not the ladies from Telepathe either, lol). As LivingEars reports, another new song featuring Romy of The xx on vocals should be up on their Myspace in the coming weeks. Also, look out for a spring release on the hot new label Tri Angle Records. Until then, grab these two remixes and stream one original song. Some hot shittt.
Light Asylum is Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello. You should already be familiar with Funchess’ powerful voice as she has provided vocals for the likes of !!!, Telepathe and TV on the Radio. Download two dark new wave gems below and stream a few more (‘Dark Allies’!) at their Myspace. Light Asylum = awesome. Can’t wait for a proper release. UPDATE: Got some more mp3s.
2010, Young Turks 01. Tremel; 02. Tremel (Romantic Three Remix); 03. Tremel (Jamie xx Remix); 04. Tremel (Astronomer Remix)
‘Tremel’ is an old Glasser song now getting an official release on Young Turks in late March. The single features remixes by Jamie of The xx, Romantic Three and Astronomer. Grab the new mix of ‘Tremel’ below, as well as that exquisite Lemonade collab we mentioned yesterday. And speaking ofThe Subliminal Kid, he’ll apparently be a part of her backing band on the upcoming UK tour. (Hah, this post makes for a nice connection between the previous two.) Tremel is due out March 29th, pre-order it here.
2010, Digitalis Recordings 01. The New Black; 02. Swing; 03. Guadeloupe; 04. Into the Ground; 05. Axee; 06. After; 07. Undertow
Roll The Dice is a collaboration between film composer Malcolm Pardon and producer Peder Mannerfelt, better known as The Subliminal Kid. The duo used only synths and piano on the entire record, creating dark atmospheric instrumentals. And you can totally tell that Mannerfelt worked with Fever Ray on her magnificent self-titled debut. Need I say more? Get Roll The Dicehere.
NME recently posted a mix by Dean Bein from True Panther Sounds. Some of the tracks he shared are exclusive. There’s a Teengirl Fantasy live track, Lemonade & Glasser collaboration, Glasser remixed by Tanlines, Lemonade remixed by These Are Powers‘ Brenmar, Janka Nabay and Magic Kids songs… Oh, and a track by a certain band named Girls (?). Read the whole article, grab more mp3s and watch some videos at NME. Here are our picks:
Got this in our inbox a few weeks ago (yeah sometimes we’re slow on submissions). That gave Brooklyn’s Psychobuildings enough time to put out another great song and evolve from Peter LaBier’s solo project to a trio that includes Peter Schuette of Silk Flowers and Juan Pieczanski of Small Black. Their music is pretty new wavey, something like a modern Talking Heads with more of a focus on electronics. Psychobuildings 7″ is due out next week on All Hands Electric, pre-order it here. Here’s the B-side ‘Paradise’ and a new track:
Watch the video for ‘Odessa’, the first single from Caribou‘s forthcoming full-length Swim. There’s some blood, some fire and water, and a lot of snow. Hmm… Anyhow, can’t wait for the new album.
The only info on the mysterious Witchcraft is that there should be a 7″ on Captured Tracks soon. Which is good. And so are their catchy Blank Dogs-style lo-fi post-punk jams. But I would reconsider that band name if I was them… (Or have they already changed it to MINKS?) Download ‘Funeral Song’ below and stream two more tracks on Witchcraft’s Myspace.
Seen this around on blogs and liked it so I thought we should post it too. Ever wondered what it’d sound like if Tickley Feather was a member of Beach House? Me neither, but I’m guessing it would sound something like this. Check out two tracks from Orlando, Florida’s Emily Reo, the wonderful ‘Metal on Your Skin’ and a cover that doesn’t suck (!). You can stream her album on last.fm and buy it from A Dracula Records.
Eluvium‘s new album Similes is out February 23rd on Temporary Residence. We dig the first single, ‘The Motion Makes Me Last’ so here’s an mp3, video AND a Four Tet remix (thanks to The Needle Drop for the heads up). Pre-order Simileshere.
