BESTIAL MOUTHS – EARTH

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

bestialmouths-earthFollowing their excellent, recently released split with Deathday, Bestial Mouths have announced the details of their new album. The forthcoming full-length by this Los Angeles four piece comprised of Lynette Cerezo, Jessica Reuter, Chrisopher Myrick and Gustavo Aldana, was produced by Egyptrixx. We expect some serious gloomy harsh club music vibes, as displayed on the  tense first single “Earth”. The video for this song is also in the works, watch the teaser here.  The self-titled LP is due out June 25 on Clan Destine Records.

SOFT METALS – TELL ME

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

softmetals-tellmeLos Angeles via Portland duo Soft Metals are back with an awesome new song. Do yourself a favor and take a listen to “Tell Me”, the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album. The follow-up to their self-titled debut (one of our 2011 favorites) and last year’s interesting collection of remixes, is called Lenses, and is due out this summer on Captured Tracks. Their distinct brand of synth-pop always veers between dreamy and dancefloor-ready, and “Tell Me” is no exception. We’re excited to hear what the rest of the record brings!

excepterIt’s been a few years since we last heard from the mighty Excepter, ie. too long. They appear to be back though, which can only be good news. Stream Excepter’s “All the People” here, visit Religion Recs’ Soundcloud for a few more tunes, and look out for the aptly titled Psychic Selections v. 1 compilation, as well as more new stuff from Excepter.

BUTTERCLOCK – FIRST PROM EP

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

butterclockIt seems that, while we were away, Laura Clock finally started to get the attention she deserves with her Butterclock project. Her new First Prom EP, out on FANTASY music, features five tracks that make for a perfect late night listen, or for one fucked up prom night. We’ve already had a chance to hear the lead singles, ”Holograms” and “Don’t“, and now, to mark today’s digital release, the EP has been made available for streaming in its entirety – which you can do below. Also peep Clock’s NC guest mix in case you missed it last spring.

RITUALZ – PISCES

Friday, March 1st, 2013
ritualz-piscesLast spring, Ritualz released a short instrumental EP called Outworld Music I, the first in the series of EPs that find the producer exploring new experimental sounds, different than those heard on the regular Ritualz releases. Now, Outworld Music II is just around the corner: we have the first track off it right here, and the whole thing will be out next week on Ritualz Bandcamp. Volume 3 should follow soon, with the fourth and final one arriving in the summer. A proper Ritualz full-length is also in the works. Listen to “Pisces”:

LIGHT HOUSE – THE WALLS WANT COMMUNION [VIDEO]

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

So we’ve found another great new band from Portland. *Shocker*. Light House is a trio comprised of Chris Relyea, Dawn Sharp, and Brooks Blackhawk, and their blend of shoegaze atmospherics and dark synth sounds is right up our alley. The band’s latest release, In Their Image EP, comes to us via Freee, a new project from the fine folks from Ecstasy consisting of, in their own words, music, literature and whatever else they feel like putting out. Watch the video for the stand-out track “The Walls Want Communion”.

DYLAN ETTINGER – DAWN

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

dylanettinger-dawnDylan Ettinger kindly hooked us up with a digital version of his newest release the other day, and it quickly found itself on heavy rotation. Entitled Crucify Your Love, the cassette tape is out now on the mighty Night People label. The release features five new tracks, and sees Dylan Ettinger further developing his already-trademark quirky synth-pop sound, displayed on last year’s excellent full-length Lifetime of Romance. V/A – ??MDISCS 2K13 COMPILATION

Monday, February 18th, 2013

va-amdiscscompI remember talking to Rado Z. from AMDISCS about him starting a label with his colleagues… That was in 2010, and it’s great to see how far they’ve come in merely a couple of years. Their latest offering comes in the form of a massive two-piece free compilation ??MDISCS 2K13, which dropped today via Hartzine and Tiny Mix Tapes. Curated by Rado Z. and mixed by Mike Textbeak, the compilation features over seventy premieres “of the freshest upcoming music of 2K13″. Find more info and download links here. Streaming below are a remix of Sand Circles‘ “Innercity Haze”, and a track by Clay Ruby’s new project Feral Love - an incredible take on “Fuck U All the Time” which I got recently and have had on repeat ever since.

SKELETONKIDS – ?

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

skeletonkids-xI wasn’t planning on doing any Valentine’s Day related posts, but then then I got hooked on this track that came up in my news feed along with the text “*~BRED IN BLACK~*? HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY ?”… So, ugh, I guess I’ll have to publicly aknowledge what date it is after all. The track in question is Skeletonkids‘ “?” in which the “screwgaze” act sample The Shangri-Las’ pessimistic “Dressed in Black“, to unsurprisingly grim results.
~ How fucking romantic. ~ :*

FELICITA – (>’.')># EP

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

felicita-epWe first got acquainted with the London producer Felicita back in 2010, although, as his former collaborator Palmistry so insightfully predicted, 2013 might be the year he steps his game up and starts  receiveing more attention. Evidence #1: Felicita’s new free release with an un-Google-able title (>’.')>#. Streaming below is “Slavs Wi Sparkley Eyes”, the gorgeous opening track which doesn’t quite prepare you for the oddball electronic video-gamey sounds of the following three tunes. Download the whole EP here, oh, and don’t let that bloody video clip confuse you.

V/A – THE END OF CIVILIZATION

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

va-endofcivilizationThe Italian label Mannequin is releasing a compilation of obscurities from various artists from around the world, including a couple of familiar names. Curated by Mushy, who happens to have recently made an excellent mix for yours truly, this collection shifts from minimal synth and coldwave to noisy and psychedelic stuff. The contributions from Deathday, Phosphor, and Police des Moeurs are streaming below, but I suggest you head over to Bandcamp and listen to the whole thing, especially those last few tracks.

CLIPPING. – KILLER

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

clippingLast week we found out that one of the dudes from Captain Ahab was involved with a new project, which was pretty exciting, being that the sadly disbanded duo was one of our favorite  live acts in recent years. Clipping. is comprised of CA’s Jonathan Snipes, William Hutson (a.k.a. Rale) and Daveed Diggs. The trio combines, umm, rap and harsh noise? Hell yes, please! Stream two songs and watch the trailer for their debut full-length, due out next week. “It’s Clipping., bitch.”
