Saturday, October 31st, 2009Watch the new Future of the Left live video for Arming Eritrea. UPDATE: It’s not the official video. Thank god. As Falco told us in a recent interview, the next single off Travels with Myself and Another will be a double A-side of Arming Eritrea and You Need Satan More Than He Needs You and it’s coming out around Christmas. Dunno whether that’s something the label was going for, but You Need Satan… makes for one hell of a Christmas hit. Try blasting that one at the family dinner.
The crowd seems oddly inanimate and pulseless. FOTL have had better shows.

HIGH PLACES – I WAS BORN [VIDEO]
Friday, October 30th, 2009New High Places single and video! I Was Born single is out now on Thrill Jockey, just in time for Halloween. “I Was Born also marks the creation of High Places’ first official video. The piece was filmed, styled, edited and conceived by Barber and Pearson, and shows their affinity for pairing aural and visual art. ” Neat. The song brings quite a shift in sound, check it out:
The band will also release another single and video and then release both new tracks on a 12″ ,with some remixes. “A new full-length set for release in the spring…” Alright!

Future Islands are releasing a remix EP on 12″ vinyl in collaboration with NYC Art Collective Free Danger. It’s limited to 500 copies. No info on where to buy it yet. However! It will feature remixes from the likes of Pictureplane and Javelin, and remixes of tracks featuring No Age and Victoria Legrand of Beach House. Sounds pretty cool.

Dizzy Jaguars are a duo from California that makes some fine dreamy/ fuzzy/ hazy lo-fi pop tunes. Thanks to Dizzy Jaguars and nice weather today, I almost forgot it was fall. But I wouldn’t call this summer music, perhaps music for thinking about or remembering the summer. Hah.

Sugarland is the debut full length by Talk Normal, the Brooklyn duo comprised of Sarah Register and Andrya Ambro, out today on Rare Book Room. The minimalist noise they create comes from using a steel drum, guitar and prepared drums.
They’ve played shows with Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, Sightings, Pterodactyl and the likes, which to an extent is also indicative of the sound they cultivate. “Sugarland represents material spanning a broad time frame, including a few songs that were pre-Secret Cog. But the majority of it is more recent, from the past year-ish, that we’ve been performing live.” [MORE] There’s also a cover of Roxy Music’s In Every Dream Home a Heartache (!).

Real Estate‘s self-titled debut is finally coming out on November 17th through Woodsist. Upon viewing the tracklist, it’s obvious that the album suffers from the lack of new tracks. Anyone who’s into this band is surely already familiar with most of these songs. However, those songs are good so Real Estate makes a fine and enjoyable listen. Pre-order it here.
