GROUPER – VESSEL, HOLD THE WAY

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

There are some new songs up on Grouper’s Myspace page, Vessel and Hold the Way.

A split 12″ with Roy Montgomery should be released some time later this year. It will feature a live recording from their show in Christchurch on Montgomery’s side and 4 new songs on Grouper’s side. Could Vessel and Hold the Way be some of those new songs to be on that release? Dunno. Anyway, go check ‘em out on her myspace.

TERROR BIRD – NEW SONGS

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
Terror Bird put up a couple of new tracks on her Myspace page so we asked Nikki Never about them: “I am about to record an album, so those songs may or may not be on it (probably will!) but perhaps re-recorded.”
She was nice enough to send a couple of songs our way and talk us through them. The first one, Shadows in the Halls, will be featured on her new LP coming out with Night People (who also put out Sociopaths Are Glam) sometimes in the next 4-6 months.
Shadows in the Halls

NN: This song is called New Hero and I’m not sure if it will make it on the Night People release or not. You’re the first besides my band to hear it. It is about a woman who is infatuated with a nun.
New Hero

NN: This might be on the release. It’s about a bunch of different things…observing the oddness of modern medicine/plastic surgery by talking about making silicone equilibrium for those who have mental troubles, feeling alien, finding entertainment in social drama, flying in dreams. It was a weird poem that turned into a song.
She’s a Revolutionary

Well, judging by these snippets, we have a lot of dark pop goodness to look forward to. We absolutely love Shadows in the Halls. Check out more hits to be like Thrill Killer, another gem, on her Myspace.
Sociopaths Are Glam is still available. Get it.

TURZI – BUENOS AIRES/BOMBAY EP

Monday, September 28th, 2009

2009, Record Makers
01. Buenos Aires; 02. New Beat in Buenos Aires, a Sebastien Tellier & Romain Turzi remix; 03. Bombay; 04. Thriller in Bombay, koudlam Switzerland remix

The tracks Buenos Aires and Bombay are taken from Turzi’s forthcoming sophomore album, B. The album features Bobby Gillespie and Brigitte Fontaine on guest vocals. (I wonder if they would be on the record if their names didn’t start with a ‘B’.) Turzi deliver some more of their blend of electronic, krautrock and world music – the names of the songs suggest which parts of the world that ‘world music’ part comes from. I guess. Here’s the A side.

TRANSFORMATION SURPRISE – OCEANS PRAY [VIDEO]

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
New song and video by Transformation Surprise, the solo project of High Places‘ Mary Pearson. Doesn’t bring High Places to mind as much as you’d expect. It sounds less playful, a bit droney, more serious, with no percussion… And it’s beautiful.

Stream Oceans Pray, as well as two old songs, over at her Myspace page.
